TGA-Approved Pathway

When nothing else has worked, we are here to help

If chronic pain, anxiety, or sleepless nights have left you feeling stuck, medical cannabis may offer a new way forward. Our AHPRA-registered prescribers provide judgement-free assessments and genuine follow-up care - all through a secure telehealth consultation.

Understanding Your Options

A regulated pathway for patients who deserve more options

Living with chronic pain, persistent anxiety, or poor sleep can be exhausting - especially when the treatments you have tried so far have not brought the relief you need. Since 2016, medical cannabis has been a legal treatment option in Australia for patients in exactly this situation, prescribed through the TGA's Special Access Scheme (SAS-B) or by an Authorised Prescriber.

At Velora HealthConnect, we understand that asking about medical cannabis can feel daunting. That is why every consultation is conducted in a compassionate, judgement-free environment. Your AHPRA-registered prescriber will take the time to understand your full medical history, current medications, and personal health goals before any treatment is considered.

What sets us apart is what happens after the prescription. Every patient receives scheduled follow-up appointments, ongoing dosage monitoring, and access to our dedicated support team. We believe proper medical cannabis care means building a genuine, long-term relationship with your healthcare provider - not a one-off consultation.

Common Questions

Answers to your medical cannabis questions

Is medical cannabis legal in Australia?

Yes, absolutely. Medical cannabis has been legal in Australia since 2016 when prescribed by an AHPRA-registered medical practitioner through TGA-approved pathways - either the Special Access Scheme (SAS-B) or the Authorised Prescriber pathway. You need a valid prescription, and Velora HealthConnect operates in full compliance with all TGA and AHPRA regulations.

Will medical cannabis make me feel intoxicated?

It depends on the product prescribed. Many medical cannabis formulations are CBD-dominant and do not produce intoxicating effects. Products containing THC may have some psychoactive effects, but your prescriber will explain this thoroughly and start with a low dose. The goal is always therapeutic benefit, and dosing is carefully managed through ongoing follow-up to minimise any unwanted effects.

Can I drive while taking medical cannabis?

This is an important question we discuss with every patient. Driving laws vary by state and territory, but in most Australian jurisdictions it is currently illegal to drive with THC in your system - even with a valid prescription. Your prescriber will explain the specific driving implications for your state and the products prescribed. CBD-only products may have different considerations.

How long does it take to receive my medication?

SAS-B applications are typically processed by the TGA within a few business days. The Authorised Prescriber pathway can often be faster, depending on your prescriber's existing approvals. Once approved, your medication is dispensed and delivered promptly. We keep you informed at every stage and work to minimise any delays.

What are the costs involved?

Costs include the consultation fee and the cost of your prescribed products. Medical cannabis is not currently covered by the PBS, so it is paid for out of pocket. We believe in full transparency - all fees are discussed upfront before you commit to anything. Contact our team for current pricing details.

Do I need to have tried other treatments before I am eligible?

Generally, yes. Under TGA guidelines, medical cannabis is typically considered when conventional treatments have been tried without providing adequate relief. During your consultation, your prescriber will review your full treatment history to assess eligibility. If you are unsure whether you qualify, reach out to our team - we are happy to have a confidential conversation before you book.
